Kay Cox was honored and humbled to write this story about a great family. God Bless everyone.
Bernard Thier, a man of great faith, a devoted family man and a farmer in Nobles County received a kidney from his daughter, Julie, on November 14th! The surgery was done at Sanford in Sioux Falls, SD. This is a story leading up to November 14th.
Bernard and his wife, Diane, are the parents of five children, namely Kim, Julie, Laura, David and Jodi. Bernard’s parents were the late Cyril and Isabel Thier and they were also dedicated farmers in Nobles County. Bernard and Diane moved into Adrian in 1999 and their son David and wife Ann and their children moved to the Thier farm located on the edge of Rushmore, MN. Bernard continued to help with the farming operations. In about five years Bernard started to have health problems. After many tests in Rochester, it was time to start dialysis. That meant a trip to Sioux Falls three times a week. His three local “kids” stepped up and took turns taking Dad to Sioux Falls. In time, an opening in Sanford/Worthington came available so the trip was greatly shortened and Bernard also drove himself to the treatment and often went out to the farm to lend a hand.
