37 “Warriors” running for MCC / Fulda pairing

With the state of Minnesota’s top-ranked Class A girl in high school cross country leading the way during training camp, along with a “full package” of 36 other aspiring distance runners, the combined Murray County Central and Fulda operation — officially known this fall as the “Warriors” and guided again by veteran head coach Dominick Damm — has a lot to be optimistic about.

“I am very excited to have such a big team with so many capable runners,” Damm declared when asked about the prospects for the coming season. “I can see quality competition between teammates every day. The boys graduated a bunch of real good varsity runners from last year’s fine squad, but we did not graduate a single girl off a team which was really good last season. Hopefully, everyone stays healthy and we should have a great season in 2019.”

Leading the Warrior girls will be junior Morgan Gehl who finished an impressive third in the 2018 Class A state meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield in early November. Prior to her fourth consecutive state-meet run, Gehl was undefeated last fall, winning every race by a large spread.
