The Fulda Boys’ Basketball team played host to the defending Red Rock Conference Champions, the WWG Chargers on Tuesday night. While the Raiders fought hard, they ultimately fell 69-43.
Cory Renneke and Tyler Madison each scored 11 points to lead the Raiders. Madison added 6 rebounds, while Renneke recorded 3 steals. Payton Marquardt added 10 points, as well.
To begin the game, the Chargers looked to work the ball around and try and feed their inside post, Parker Freeburg. Freeburg was able to seal off his Raider defender and score on consecutive baskets. But the Raiders wouldn’t let the game get away from them right away.
Following a quick timeout, the Raiders found the basket, as Madison was able to hit a layup to get Fulda on the board. Renneke was able to find the distance from range a couple of times and the Raiders were able to keep their deficit in single digits for a long stretch of the half. But with the Raiders making a few adjustments to key in on Freeburg, the WWG guards were able to get some shots from the outside. The Chargers moved the ball well around the perimeter and were able to find exactly what they wanted – whether in their initial offense or through offensive rebounds.
Sam Cheadle was able to get himself to the free throw line for the Raiders, but their trailed 33-19 at halftime.
The second half saw the Chargers continue to feed Freeburg in the post – finishing with 27 points for WWG. While they were able to continue to use their inside game to their advantage, they were also able to force the Raiders into some turnovers for easy scores on their end.
Renneke continued to stay hot for the Raiders and found the range once more. Madison attacked the basket adding to the scoreboard, while Marquardt connected on a 3-pointer. WWG had extended their lead too far out for the Raiders to make any run to close the cap. Brandon
Clausen knocked down a 3-pointer from a Cory Renneke assist. It was a back and forth affair the rest of the game with each team trading scores, as WWG prevailed 69-43.
