The Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda B-Squad girls’ basketball team made a pair of long trips to the west in recent weeks, tangling with a couple of talented opponents.
On December 21, the Coyotes were at Luverne and played a fast-paced game against the Cardinals. Luverne claimed a huge 31-9 halftime lead, but HL-O / Fulda battled hard in the second half, being outscored just 15-11 as the game ended with a 46-20 win for LHS.
Things were similar two weeks later (after the Christmas Vacation break) when the Coyotes made the longer trip to Hills (January 3) and fell victim to a long and athletic Hill-Beaver Creek team which opened up a 37-12 halftime lead before claiming a 59-21 victory.
HL-O / Fulda had very balanced scoring in both games, as seven players contributed points against Luverne and eight girls scored at Hills.
Faith White (six), Brittany Lais (four), Skylar Fisher (three), Claire Reith (two), Addison Fisher (two), Chrissy Hermeling (two) and Brooke Lais (one) scored for the Coyotes against the Cardinals.
Hermeling, White and Brittany Lais each scored four points for HL-O / Fulda against the Patriots, while Grace Kilian, Taylor Haberman, Brooke Lais and Skylar Fisher all had two points. Reith made one free throw to complete the Coyotes’ exceptional scoring balance.
