Effectively utilizing full-court trapping tactics, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda B-Squad girls’ basketball team earned its first win of the season, defeating the Madelia Blackhawks at Madelia last Friday evening (January 4) by a final score of 31-15.
“We got off to a quick start and forced a lot of turnovers with our full-court traps,” praised Coyotes’ Coach Jonathon Curry about the effectiveness of the press. “It was good to get out in transition and score some fast-break baskets.”
The Coyotes completely dominated first-half action as they opened up a huge 20-2 lead at the break.
“We slowed down a bit offensively in the second half,” Curry said. “But the Coyote defense never let Madelia make any sort of a run and we made big shots when we needed them. It was a great night and very fun to get win #1 in Coyote B-Squad history.”
