Rallying with 25 second-half points at Madelia last Friday evening (January 4), the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda Coyotes competed well in a non-conference varsity girls’ basketball game against the Madelia Blackhawks of the Valley Conference.
Claiming a 29-15 halftime lead, Madelia improved its season record to 2-8 with a 50-40 victory over the Coyotes, who are now 0-11.
Connecting on six three-pointers in the game, including three by freshman Chrissy Hermeling, two from senior McKenzie Evers and one by junior Khloe Gehl, HL-O / Fulda stayed close throughout an exciting second half of action.
Hermeling, who made three-of-four free throws, finished with 14 points to lead the Coyotes in scoring, while Evers tallied 11 points, along with along with six rebounds (three offensive and three defensive). Evers also came up with a steal, while Hermeling had both an assist and a steal.
Junior Kelsey Fuerstenberg played a fine all-around game for HLOF as she contributed team-high totals of seven rebounds (three offensive, four defensive) and four steals, while also scoring two points and blocking a pair of shots.
