A 911 call came in early morning on Tuesday, January 15th, that flames were coming out of the Ellsworth City Hall building. An Ellsworth resident passing by noticed water coming from the building and upon investigation discovered the fire.
Speaking with Ellsworth Mayor Tasha Domeyer there were 10 area fire departments with trucks and/or personnel helping fight the blaze. Mayor Domeyer stated that the building is a loss and the worry was that the building would collapse into the city watertower. Henning Construction from Adrian was called to knock down the building as fire departments fought the flare ups. Mayor Domeyer commented, “we are grateful we have a new cell tower so our cell phones were working. Everyone in this small community is willing to step in and help. We were able to get the city clerks computer out before the blaze was able to reach the office so we saved a lot of the records. It is sad to see this landmark go.”
As the Fulda Free Press went to press the firefighters were still fighting the blaze.
