When most people think of public transit, light rail trains, and subways come to mind.But the public transit provided through Community Transit of Western Community Action is much more human. Linda Schaffran, a volunteer driver, helps make it that way. As Community Transit seeks more volunteers throughout Southwest Minnesota, she sat down to share some the experiences that keep her on the road.
Schaffran began volunteering with Community Transit at the end of September in 2006. She was unable to continue working due to chronic health issues, but she still wanted to do something to help others. “I always feel you should treat people how you want to be treated,” she said. That’s when someone told her about volunteer driving.
