Donald E. Toftland
Donald E. Toftland, 79, died May 7, 2016 at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital.
Don was born on July 5, 1936 in Worthington, MN. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1955 and soon after joined the Navy.
He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Roos on October 26, 1968. Throughout their marriage, he wore many hats. They managed apartment complexes in Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Terry Peak, and Rapid City. In 1981, they moved to Alliance, NE where they owned and operated McC’s Lounge. After missing the Black Hills, they moved back to Rapid City in 1985. He worked maintenance at Western Dakota Tech. Later, he drove charter bus in Sturgis and Rapid City. “Captain Don” took several high school teams to their events and could be spotted for years to come in the stands supporting them. Don also loved going to auctions.
He frequently went back to the farm in Minnesota and stayed at Bobby and Trudy’s. The laughter, stories, love, and pinochle games were always plentiful.
Don is survived by his daughter Jodi (Denny) Leibel, Rapid City, SD; son JD Tofteland, Los Angeles, CA; two grandsons Zachary Leibel, San Diego, CA and Jared Leibel, Rapid City/Duluth, MN; and sister Peggy (Roman) Roos, Victoria, MN.
He was preceded in death by Elizabeth Tofteland, and parents Melvin and Louise Tofteland.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 14 at Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN.
