Coyote C-Squad girls play well on both ends, earn 27-17 victory
Playing what Coyote Coach Jonathon Curry called its “best performance of the season,” the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda C-Squad girls’ basketball team earned a well-played 27-17 victory over Red Rock Central at Fulda last Tuesday, January 22.
The Coyotes got off to a “fast start,” according to Curry and “won both halves” in a fine all-around effort.
HLOF claimed a 15-7 halftime lead and outscored the Falcons by a 12-10 margin to stay ahead after intermission.
Six players combined for score 13 two-point field goals in the game for the Coyotes and Brooke Lais sank a free throw. Corrine Frodermann, Kelli Renneke and Anna Fest each scored six points for HLOF, while Addison Fisher (four), Claire Reith (two) and Jaydin Dirks (two) combined for eight more Coyote points.
The victory improved the C-Squad’s overall record to 5-2.

Coyotes C-Squad girls defeated by Rebels and Eagles last week
Following its impressive Tuesday victory over Red Rock Central, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda C-Squad girls’ basketball team was defeated by both Murray County Central (32-21) and Southwest Minnesota Christian (38-15) in a pair of home games at Fulda last week.
The Coyotes played MCC on Thursday evening, the 24th, and hosted SWC on Saturday afternoon, the 26th. The two losses dropped HLOF’s overall record to 5-4.
Six Coyotes scored against MCC, as Faith White (six points) and Skylar Fisher (five points) each made a three-point shot. Anna Fest (four points), Brooke Lais (two), Kelli Renneke (two) and Claire Reith (two) combined to score 11 points for HLOF.
After not scoring a point in the first half against SW Christian, the Coyotes rallied with a 15-point second half and finished the game with eight free throws, while being held to just three field goals (a pair of two-pointers and one three-pointer).
White was the leading scorer (a three-pointer and two free throws) with five points, while Renneke and Fest each scored three points. Reith and Addison Fisher both scored two points for the Coyotes against the Eagles.
