Arkell leads RRC B-Squad past Coyote girls, 50-30, on Tuesday
A dominating second-half scoring performance by Red Rock Central’s six-foot freshman Karli Arkell broke open a close and highly-competitive B-Squad girls’ basketball game at Fulda last Tuesday, January 22.
The Falcons held a mere one-point lead at halftime (19-18), but Arkell — who shined for RRC’s varsity volleyball squad last fall — played in the second half and poured in 20 points for the Falcons, lifting them to victory.
“We had a real good first half,” summed up Coyotes’ Coach Jonathon Curry. “We were trading baskets and coming with big play after big play in the first half.”
Leading that first-half surge was the efforts of freshman Emily Madison who scored 10 points for the Coyotes before sitting out the second half(as she plays two varsity halves).
With Madison on the bench and Arkell in the game, the tide turned in RRC’s favor after intermission.
In addition to Madison’s 10 points, the Wildcats also received five points from Skylar Fisher, four from Taryn Evers, three from Faith White and two points each from Chrissy Hermeling, Addison Fisher, Taylor Haberman and Cheyliska Schaffer.

In a pair of similar games, the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda B-Squad girls’ basketball team was defeated by Murray County Central (54-30) and Southwest Minnesota Christian (52-30) in action last week on the home floor in Fulda.
Freshmen Faith White (12 points) and Skylar Fisher (10 points) both notched double figures in the loss to MCC. White made six free throws in the game.
Also scoring for the Coyotes were Emily Madison (four points), Claire Reith (two points) and Brittany Lais (two points).
The Rebels broke open a close game (21-14 at halftime) by outscoring the Coyotes by a 33-16 spread in the second half on the contest which was played last Thursday, January 24.
The scenario was much the same in Saturday (January 26) afternoon’s game against the Eagles of SW Christian. Southwest extended its 22-12 halftime advantage into a 54-30 final.
Faith White scored over half of HLOF’s points as she tallied 16 points (two three’s, three two’s and four free throws).
Skylar Fisher (four points), Tara Tuin (two points), Anna Fest (two points), Claire Reith (two points), Chrissy Hermeling (two points), Emily Madison (one point) and Jaydin Dirks (one point) combined to score the Coyotes’ remaining 14 points against the fast-paced Eagles.
