Fulda Fire Department called to two fires on Monday

Fulda Fire Department was called to two separate fires on Monday morning, according to Fire Chief David Baumhoefner.

“We were called out at 12:51 a.m. this morning for a barn fire. When we got there, the barn had already collapsed,” Chief Baumhoefner stated. “The property owner was awakened by his wife, and he was able to take some photos. The barn was a total loss.”

Responding to the fire were Fulda Fire Department, Wilmont Fire Department who provided  mutual aid, Nobles County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Gass Trenching, who helped in moving debris,  and the Fulda City Street Department, who provided snow removal.

At 11:15 a.m., the Fulda Fire Department received another call to a home on U.S. Highway 59, south of Fulda,  for a chimney fire.

“The homeowner had started his fireplace about an hour before that. He heard a loud noise like a roar, or a jet, and he knew it wasn’t right,” Fire Chief Baumhoefner stated. “He went to look and saw black tar running down the outside of the pipe. Fire department personnel were able to ventilate the chimney and get the fire out.”

As a reminder, Fire Chief Baumhoefner urges homeowners to regularly clean chimneys to help with chimney fire prevention.

Responding to the chimney fire were Fulda Fire Department and Murray County Sheriff’s Department.
