Brian Pelzel to retire from Country Pride after serving 28 years

Many area farmers have placed their confidence and their livelihoods in the knowledge of agronomy that Brian Pelzel has offered for 28 years at Country Pride in Fulda.

On Wednesday, February 13th, an Open House will be held in honor of Pelzel, as he has announced his retirement. His last day of work at Country Pride is Friday, February 15th. The public is cordially invited to attend the Open House.

On December 15, 1991, Pelzel became the manager of the Fulda location of Country Pride Cooperative Services. A graduate of Heron Lake High School,  he came to Country Pride from the Okabena Elevator,  which had just closed it’s doors. “I really have put a lot of miles on lots of vehicles. I always joked that I had to come to Fulda to find a wife and a job,” Pelzel said, grinning. “Just look at what has happened since I started here twenty-eight years ago. There have been so many changes in equipment and technology. My dad passed away 19 years ago. I wonder what he would say if he could see what farming is like today.”

Pelzel shared that 28 years ago, six row equipment was considered to be of large size. “Now look at the planting row sizes, the fact that most planters have no markers due to the guidance systems, and the farmers can plant twenty-four hours a day.”
