Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda’s C-Squad girls’ basketball team competed favorably in three games recently, defeating Ellsworth at Ellsworth (February 16) by a final score of 32-26. One week earlier (Saturday, February 9), the Coyotes played two highly-competitive games at the Tracy Tournament, being edged by Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (33-27) and Sleepy Eye Public (45-43).
In the very well-played game against Sleepy Eye,the Coyotes battled back from a six-point halftime deficit (22-16) and took a late 43-42 lead when Skylar Fisher made a free throw and Taylor Haberman scored on an offensive rebound off a missed free throw with 4.7 seconds remaining. Sleepy Eye, however, won the game at the buzzer by making a 30-foot three-pointer.
Emily Madison (15) and Chrissy Hermeling (12) both scored in double figures for HLOF, while Haberman (five), Skylar Fisher (three), Taryn Evers (three), Jaydin Dirks (two), Faith White (two) and Addison Fisher (one) also scored in the exciting game, which Coach Jonathon Curry dubbed as a “classic.”
Skylar Fisher was HLOF’s scoring leader against T-M-B with eight points, while Hermeling and Madison each scored six points. White (five) and Evers (two) completed the scoring for the Coyotes who trailed by 14 points (23-9) at intermission.
In the victory over Ellsworth, the Coyotes surged with a pair of runs —- 7-0 to end the first half and 9-4 late in the game — to earn the six-point victory. That 7-0 run to finish the first half changed an 11-8 deficit into a 15-11 lead.
Eight girls scored for HLOF at Ellsworth, including a team-leading 11 points by Faith White. Taryn Evers (six), Anna Fest (five), Tara Tuin (four), Addision Fisher (two), Kelli Renneke (two), Claire Reith (one) and Skylar Fisher (one) also scored for the winning Coyotes.
