Falling behind 10-0 to begin the game, the Raiders couldn’t quite find a comeback to get over the Adrian Dragons when they faced off on Friday night. The Dragons defeated the Raiders by 10 points, 67-57.
Payton Marquardt led the Raiders with 18 points and 4 steals. Cory Renneke added 15 points, while Tyler Madison scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds.
The Dragons began the game by going inside on the Raiders. The Fulda defense allowed their Adrian counterparts to drive around them and make the easy pass to their wide open teammates for scores around the rim. They were also able to get the Raiders to commit turnovers, and the Raiders helped them out by not being able to hit shots. Sam Cheadle got the Raiders going with a jumper from the free throw line with a pass from Madison.
The Raiders then began to work the ball to the inside of the Dragon zone and found much more success than just shooting around the perimeter. Cheadle was able to attack a couple of more times from there, and then he was able to find Brandon Clausen for a jumper on the baseline. Marquardt was able to hit a 3-pointer towards the end of the half to cut the Dragon led to just 34-21.
The second half saw the Raiders begin to shoot the ball from the perimeter much better, but the turnovers piled up and that ultimately caused the downfall. Renneke was able to catch fire from the perimeter and was able to hit 5 3-pointers in the half. His shooting at the beginning of the half caused a run for the Raiders. Marquardt was able to cut to the basket and was found by Madison for a layup. But Adrian was able once again to get right around their defenders and drive all the way to the basket for uncontested layups. With the Raiders down 19 now, Madison was able to get to the basket and to the free throw line, but it was too late. 27 turnovers from the Raiders and the Dragons’ ability to get to the basket was the difference as Adrian won 67-57.
