The Fulda Raiders closed out the regular season on a snowy Monday night when they traveled over to Okabena to face off with the Heron Lake-Okabena Wildcats. The Raiders jumped out early, survived a Wildcat run, and then pushed back and coasted to a 80-60 victory.
Tyler Madison led the way for the Raiders with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Renneke scored 17 points, while Sam Cheadle added 17 points of his own.
The Raiders got going early as they were able to pass the ball through the Wildcat zone defense and find their open shooters in Renneke (3 1st Half 3-pointers) and Payton Marquardt for shots on the perimeter. While the Raiders outside shooting was working well, they were also able to find Cheadle on the free throw line so that he could turn and attack. The Raiders got out to a 32-15 lead forcing the Wildcats to call a timeout. HLO decided to make a quick run of their own, as they were able to get the Raiders to commit some bad passes and turns those for easy scores on the other end. The Wildcats were able to cut the lead to 32-22 before Madison was able to attack the basket and get to the free throw line. Madison was 9-13 from the free throw line during the entire game. The Raiders were once again able to get the lead back to 12 before HLO stormed back to cut the Raiders lead to 40-31 at the break.
