For the past four years, Fulda Senior High Band has presented a Meet the Band Concert for the students at Fulda Elementary School. This concert was given on Friday, March 22nd.
The purpose of the concert is to encourage elementary students in becoming interested in playing an instrument, seeing what each instrument is like and sounds like, and allowing them to enjoy the musical selections presented by the Senior High Band.
Fulda High School band and choir teacher, Matt Saxman, explained that each instrument has its place in creating the wonderful sounds that concert bands produce.
The band opened the concert with the Fulda Raider School song.
Flutes were the first instruments that were demonstrated for the younger students with the flutists playing an excerpt from “Spring from the Four Seasons”.
Clarinetists demonstrated their instruments by playing “March for Military Band”.
The entire concert band then played “Smoke on the Water”.
Saxaphones were featured next with an excerpt from “Prairie Dances”. They were followed by the trumpets who were played a portion of the song “Rondo”.
Mr. Saxman told the audience that the band had practiced “Prairie Dances” for a month and one-half as it was a piece that was played at the Fulda High School Spring Band Concert and also at Large Group Competition in Pipestone, MN.
