As Fulda Schools preschool students are learning about the many community workers with in the city, teachers Alice Spartz and Sara Zins arranged tours at the Fulda Post Office and Vitality Fitness. The tour date for those two businesses was on Friday.
Walking from Fulda Elementary School to the Fulda Post Office, the young students were shown many of the other businesses that are on the St. Paul Avenue business district.
Arriving at the post office, the students were greeted by post mistress Jane Olsem and postal employee Kris Vis. The students received a tour of the post office and were very impressed with all of the post office boxes inside of the building.
Many questions were asked about why the stamps have to be kept in the big safe. The students quickly grasped the concept that stamps are like money and are very valuable and that a letter cannot be mailed without some form of paid postage.
Mrs. Spartz and Mrs. Zins had the students prepare letters that contained hand-drawn and signed spring and summer pictures. The preschool aged artists had enclosed their drawings in legal sized envelopes and learned how to address the envelope to their parents’ addresses. What they learned after their tour of the post office was that they got to individually hand stamp their own letter; put it in the mail slot to be whisked away to Mankato, and Minneapolis, and then to return to this area for placement in their parent’s mailboxes.
