Margie Salentiny, Dundee, returned home on Friday from a two-week international marketing and leadership experience on behalf of the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (MSR&PC).
Salentiny was one of four Minnesota farmers who made the trip to the Philippines and Malaysia. Also on the trip were Patrick O’Leary, Chairman of Minnesota Soybean Promotion Council, Ben Storm who is the Director of the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council, and Christian Lilienthal.
The purpose of the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council trip was to build relationships with international soybean customers and provide leadership enhancing experiences for Minnesota farmers.
Arriving in Panang, Philippines, the group found gracious hosts and a lot of heavy traffic. “It was very fascinating just to see what is on that side of the world,” Salentiny stated. “I was overwhelmed by a couple of things. The traffic was so busy; and coming from a Minnesota March winter, the heat at 90 degrees with humidity was quite overwhelming. But the people are so very polite. If they are trying to get through the traffic with their mopeds and motorized bicycles they give a couple of beeps on the horn just to let you know that they are coming. We never saw an accident. I’m sure the beep, beep is for everyone’s safety.”
