Timmerman to be honored with Lifetime Achievement Award for work in local history field

The Murray County Historical Society would like to congratulate Janet Timmerman who will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums.

Timmerman has worked in the public history field for over 25 years. She holds a MA in History from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS and now serves as the Murray County Museums Coordinator in Slayton, overseeing the Murray County Historical Museum, Dinehart-Holt House, and End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum in Currie. Whether she was building new exhibits for the Pony Express Home Station Number One in Marysville, Kansas, accessioning artifacts for the Pipestone County Historical Society, or as Executive Director of the History Center of Olmsted County in Rochester, MN, Timmerman helped preserve local history. She has also worked at Southwest Minnesota State University’s Center for Rural and Regional Studies, the Society for the Study of Local and Regional History in Marshall, and as a board member on the MN Alliance of Local History Museums.
