Minnesota authors Jill A. Johnson and Deane L. Johnson were at Fulda City Hall on Thursday to share information regarding their book “Little Minnesota in World War II: The Stories Behind 140 Fallen Heroes from Minnesota’s Littlest Towns”.
Jill said that the book “Little Minnesota: 100 Towns Around 100” was inspired by her father after he had traveled to Strandquist, MN for a class reunion. “‘Jill, you need to write a book about these little towns. They’re not going to be there in another decade,’” Jill shared. “As we were doing the research about the small towns, we came upon so many World War II veterans who had died while serving and we knew that was to be our next book. There were eight men who died just from Strandquist.”
Jill explained that there were actually 165 men who died from Minnesota’s smallest towns during the War, but they chose to include 140 of them in their book.
