Four firsts, five seconds propel Coyote girls to victory at Tracy

Getting double-figure scoring from six girls and placing contributions from nine others, Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda claimed another team title as the Coyotes won the eight-team Panther Invitational at Tracy last Tuesday, April 9.

Competing on a cool day before the rains, ice and snow hit the area on Wednesday, the high school track and field meet featured lots of quality competition and the HL-O / Fulda girls utilized four first-place performances and five seconds to accumulate a total of 80 points.

Additionally, the depth-filled Coyotes had their share of thirds, fourths, fifths and sixths to combine for 69 more points, putting HL-O / Fulda at the top of the team standings with 149 points, just edging perennial power Marshall (147 and one-third) for first place.

“Outscoring Marshall is a tremendous accomplishment,” declared Coyotes’ head girls’ track and field coach Gary Hildebrandt. “The Tigers have a strong program and are very good every year. We had scoring contributions from 15 girls, with six of them coming through with high places in multiple events.”
