A winning performance in the pole vault by senior Gabe Spittle and the return of sophomore thrower Zach Thier highlighted track and field action for the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda boys at the eight-team Panther Invitational in Tracy last Tuesday, April 9.

Spittle cleared a season-best height of 10-6 to win the vault and score 10 points for the Coyotes. Spittle scored two more points with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, clocked at 1:00.27.

Thier, who missed the entire basketball season after having labrum surgery following a fine all-around football season, placed in two events at Tracy. Zach tossed the discus 113-9 and scored four fourth-place points. He contributed another point by placing sixth in the shot put with a distance of 38-8.
