Maple Lawn Senior Care Center holds Pink Lady Appreciation Luncheon

Tuesday, April 9th, Maple Lawn Senior Care Center held its annual Pink Ladies Appreciation Luncheon featuring HyVee Food Stores dietician  Linda Carruthers. The theme of her presentation was Choosing Healthy Meals as You Get Older.

Curruthers said to her room full of female volunteers, “We all have something in common…we are all women and we are all getting older. It is important for us to age healthfully and to make the most of our years. I feel fortunate to have been asked to come and be a part of honoring all of you volunteers. Thank you for all you do.”

“In 2005, a man from St. Paul was contracted by National Geographic to do a study on the five places in the world who have the longest living, healthy people. His book is entitled “The Blue Zones”. Those five places are in California, Greece, Costa Rica, Japan and Italy,” Carruthers said.

In looking at the study, the people who live in those areas have several things in common: they  garden, they know their sense of purpose, they stress less using routines to shred stress, they take long walks and they prayed a lot.
