Murray County Commissioners vote to move forward with administrator position

As part of the their regular meeting held on Tuesday, April 23rd, the Murray County Commissioners heard from Gary Weiers, consultant, for DDA Human Resources, Inc. He laid out a job description for the proposed county administrator position as well as reviewing a salary range.

Weiers said the salary range would be between $90,729 and $117,936 annually which is based on the county’s job classification scale siting the job at 21st pay grade. The former coordinator was stated at 20th grade which meant the pay range was approximately $5,000 less. Although the pay is looks to be slightly higher, Weiers doesn’t expect to hire someone at the top of the scale.

The process has been a lengthy one after receiving the resignation of former county coordinator Aurora Heard in December of 2018.

In the list of duties assigned to the administrator will be the responsibility of supervising all department heads, both elected and appointed. In the past the coordinator position was expected to be the go-between person for the department heads and commissioners. The hopes of the administrator position is the more of centralized way of communicating the goal of commissioners in regards to staffing, funds, and tax dollars.

In addition to overseeing the staff, the administrator will also be in charge of overseeing building maintenance and operations. Currently the building committee has had this task.

A timeline has been set with advertising for the position to have begun on Wednesday, April 24th. Following the four-week advertisement, screening will take place and then a selection of finalist will be presented at a special June 12th meeting. A second set of interviews will be held the afternoon of June 27th.
