Blackhawks defeat Coyotes, 14-1 at Searles

For the first time all spring, the paired high school baseball team of Heron Lake-Okabena and Fulda took it on the chin Friday (April 26) losing a lop-sided game to the Madelia Blackhawks at the ball park in Searles.

Through the Coyotes first seven games, every contest was close with several outcomes decided by a single run. Madelia, however, jumped on the visitors early and kept HL-O / Fulda from scoring in four of the Coyotes five innings at the plate.

The Blackhawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first, plated five more in the second, scored once in the third and crossed home five times in the fourth to win the game early via the 10-run rule.

The Coyotes lone run came in the top of the fourth when Preston Katona drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a walk to Dylan Johanning. Katona scored on an RBI single by Adrian Haberman.

Tyson Cotter and Johanning both had single for HL-O / Fulda in the second inning and Eli Becker ripped a single in the third.

The loss put the varsity team’s overall record at 3-5 for the season. The Coyotes are scheduled to play a Red Rock Conference doubleheader at Slayton Thursday (May 2) and will travel to Ruthton on the next day, Friday May 3.
