A sparkling pitching performance by seventh-grader Hannah Kazemba, along with a pair of inside-the-park home runs by freshman slugger Emily Madison, highlighted an impressive 11-1 victory by Heron Lake-Okabena over Madelia in a high school fast-pitch softball game at Madelia last Friday, April 26.
Kazemba was stellar in the circle for the Coyotes, going the full five innings and finishing with 10 strikeouts. HL-O / Fulda’s defense backed her up by playing without any errors and making several fine plays for the other five outs.
At the plate, Kazemba cracked three singles and drew a walk, scoring all four times.
Madison blasted her two home runs after earlier belting a triple. She scored three of the Coyotes runs, crossing the plate in the third, fourth and fifth innings — right behind Kazemba each time.
Junior catcher Cheyliska Schaffer and freshman first baseman Taylor Haberman each scored twice for the Coyotes, who improved to 2-5 for the season with the convincing non-conference victory.
