Cheadle wins high jump at Worthington Invite

Clearing the bar at even six feet, Coyote senior Sam Cheadle was a clear winner in the high jump last Thursday (April 25) in the nine-team Worthington Invitational high school track and field meet.

Cheadle, who also placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, seven-and-one-half inches, won the high jump by six inches as the second-place performance was 5-6.

By scoring big in both of those events, Cheadle accounted for 18 of Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda’s 41 points in the boys’ division.

Senior Gabe Spittle placed third in the pole vault (10-0) and eighth in the 400-meter dash (59.67).

Sophomores Paul Salentiny (12:15.46) and Lucas Stapek (12:15.71) finished a close sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run for the Coyotes combining their efforts for five points on the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system for the top eight places in each of the 18 events.

Senior hurdler Daine Jensen contributed a pair of eighth-place points, clocking a time of 21.20 in the 110-meter highs and clipping the 300 intermediates in 49.50, establishing a new PRs (personal records) in both events.
