Learning the art of Macramé with Jen Anfinson

Minnesota artist Jen Anfinson was in Fulda on Tuesday, April 23rd, to hold a class for introducing the art of  Macrame´ to beginner students.

Anfinson, who is a self-proclaimed life-long crafter, enjoys learning each new skill. “If it’s out there to be made, I will try it,” Anfinson stated. She was wearing a necklace that she had made using the art of macrame´and shared about it with the students.

She explained that  art of macrame´, very popular during the 1970’s, is making a com-back, and that the materials used today are mostly organic. “Cotton cording  is easier to work with and is best if it is tightly spun together,” Anfinson explained. “There are varying sizes of cord, depending on the project you are making.”

Macrame´ is done through learning basic knots and how to incorporate them into the item being made. Some of the knots taught by Anfinson at the class in Fulda included the Larks Head knot, a square knot, and a half hitch.

“It takes time and repetition to learn to macrame´ correctly,” Anfinson assured her students.
