Untiedt, Schumacher win events at conference junior high track and field meet, leading Coyotes to second place win

A trio of individual first-place finishes and a winning relay effort were among the highlights for the Heron Lake-Okabena girls in the Red Rock Conference Junior High Track and Field Meet at Mountain Lake’s Munson Field last Friday, May 11.

The Coyotes enjoyed a fine all-around day, scoring a total of 86 points and finishing second in the final team standings, among eight competing teams, representing 12 schools.

Southwest Minnesota Christian / Edgerton won the team title with a total of 131.5 points. HL-O / Fulda was second (86), followed by Hills-Beaver Creek (77), Mountain Lake Area / Comfrey (66), Murray County Central (60.5) and Adrian (14). Ellsworth and Westbrook-Walnut Grove / Red Rock Central each finished without any points in the meet.

Seventh-grader Sam Untiedt was the leading scorer for the Coyotes as she racked up 30.5 points by winning both the 100-meter low hurdles (17.1) and the long jump (13-9.5), placing second in the shot put (24-10) and running the third leg on HL-O / Fulda’s winning 4 x 100-meter relay team, which clocked an excellent time of 55.9 seconds.
