Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda hosted a weekend softball tournament in Okabena and played three games against a variety of opponents.
On Friday (May 10), the Coyotes tangled with Marshall School from Duluth. On Saturday (May 11), HL-O / Fulda played an early-morning (9 a.m.) contest against Kasson-Mantorville and a noon game versus Adrian.
The game against Adrian was extremely close as the Dragons edged the Coyotes by a final score of 5-3, after the score was tied at 3-3 at the end of four innings.
Seventh-grader Hannah Kazemba pitched a fine game for HL-O / Fulda, going the distance and striking out six Adrian hitters. She was helped out by many fine defensive plays by the Coyotes.
“Our defense was pretty strong,” declared Coyotes’ head softball coach Janae Kazemba. “We earned a lot of outs through groundouts and fly balls.”
Cheyliska Schaffer (single and a double) and Hannah Kazemba (two singles) led HL-O / Fulda’s hitting attack, while Chrissy Hermeling, Kailee Haberman, Amber Ruthenbeck and Cassidy Hennings had a hit each.
