Stellar senior track and field athletes Sam Cheadle and Gabe Spittle each had banner days for the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda boys at the Section 3A Meet at Pipestone’s Paulsen Field last Monday, May 6.
Both Cheadle (81 points) and Spittle (62 points) competed well in four events among the 13 competing teams in the unique meet, which is scored differently than most. See the explanation on how the meet points are tabulated in the separate story about the Coyote girls.
Cheadle scored 26 points by winning the high jump (5-10) and tacked on another 22 with a fifth-place leap of 39-3 in the triple jump. He scored another 33 points by placing ninth in the long jump (18-1) and finishing 12th in the 100-meter dash (PR time of 12.40).
Spittle contributed 22 points with a fifth in the pole vault (10-0) and scored 40 more in the three dashes, getting 11th in the 200 (25.96), 13th in the 400 (1:00.49) and 17th in the 100 (12.57).
