One of the activities that took place last week at Maple Lawn Senior Care was the arrival of twenty-eight Fulda Elementary School second graders who were armed with books to read to the residents.
Each student had the goal of reading the book that they had chosen to three residents, rotating as directed by their teacher, Susan Lee, or a paraprofessional or Maple Lawn staff member.
In many instances, the students and the resident would be totally concentrated on the words and pictures in the book. There was some laughter as the books were read as well as quite a bit of conversation after the reading of the book was done. Many times the question was asked of the student about why they had chosen that book to read out loud with their reading partners.
It was obvious that the students and the residents were thoroughly enjoying their time spent together.
