Memorial programs to be held at Dundee and Fulda on Saturday morning.

Commencement exercises to be held on Thursday night for the graduating class of 1959. Martin C. Briggs is the Commencement speaker.

Tom Gits, C & C president wishes to call attention to the new BUSINESS DISTRICT signs which have been installed on Highway 59. The signs were put up in an attempt to divert traffic through Fulda’s downtown area.

In the next few months Interstate Power Company will re-insulate and increase the wire size on the 17 mile line from Fulda to Westbrook. The project is part of Interstates Expansion plan and will cost approximately $65,000.

Heinrichs Wall and Floor Covering has purchased the old liquor store building and will be holding a Grand Opening on Friday, May 29th.

Beautiful spring flowers on the altar at the American Lutheran Church in Avoca was the setting for the marriage of Marlys Koehn and Andrew Engelkes on Sunday, May 24th.

Funeral services for Ferdinand Koopman were held May 25th. Mr. Koopman died on May 21st after a lingering illness.

Fulda Mealsite celebrates their 13th anniversary. Leona Behr and Dorothy Bottin are the only Mealsite managers Fulda has had.

Joseph Biren and his dad went on the South Dakota Wagon Train for a couple of days – it was quite an experience.

A parade, lake ceremony and program held to honor fallen comrades on Memorial Day.

Orrin and Marilyn (Ramerth) Clarke to celebrate 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 11th.

Brian and Deborah Bultmann announce their mariage which took place on April 22nd in Longmont, Colorado.

Michelle Steffen and Doug Storm announce their engagement. The couple is planning a July 22nd wedding.

Lori and Jeff Knutson are the parents of a girl, Amanda Jo born May 23rd. Grandparents are Rose and Mahlon Knutson and Roger and Joanne Halbur.

Walter Gleason passed away at the age of 81 years old on May 27th.

Fulda Heritage Society holding Pie and Coffee Day on June 10th.

Leo Voss has spent a great deal of time gathering facts and names to construct a wall dedicated to the Missing In Action (MIA) from Minnesota. The wall was set up at the Memorial Day program for all to see.

In honor of those who served  a gun salute was given near Fulda’s Lake by Don Uttech, Alvin Jorgenson and Gary Sell. The flags were carried with pride in honor of all military branches. The program was held at the school.

Plans for a city flower garden are in progress to beautify many of the store fronts, parks and other areas in Fulda.

Graduation ceremonies were held at the Fulda High School on Friday evening.

Fulda FLA/FHA received the Chapter of Excellence Award at the State level.     

The 2nd Annual Fifth Grade Wax Museum was held on Wednesday for friends, family and fellow students attending.

Fulda Elementary School held their Awards Day on Thursday with students receiving certificates, book marks as well as other awards.

Kent Crowley and Jenna Wendorff advance to the State Tack Meet; Kent in the 100 and 200 meter dash and Jenna in the shot.

Rick and Lisa Gibson are proud to announce the birth of their son, Jack, born May 17th. Grandparents are Paul and Kathleen Stumm and Dick and Jan Gibson.

Eugene Hergert passed away on May 27th at the age of 72 years old.

Emma Lilly passed away on May 26th at the age of 87 years old.

The Fulda Police Department and the Fulda Fire Department assisted the Murray County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday with an accident which took place on the intersection of 62 and 59 near Fulda. Apparently a semi truck filled with 45 pound pigs attempted to make the turn when the weight shifted causing the trailer to flip on it’s side.

The Sheriff’s Department also responded to an accident on Saturday west of Fulda on County Road 2 where two vehicles collided causing extensive damage. Both drivers and passengers were treated and released.

On Sunday the Fulda Police were called to an accident on East Lake Avenue in Fulda where the driver of a Dodge Caravan lost control and rolled on it’s side. The driver and one passenger were not injured. A second passenger received a hand injury and was taken to Spirit Lake for surgery. The car received extensive damage.

Perry Loegering, DNR Area Wildlife Manager, has been busy planting Native Prairie grasses and flowers near Lime Creek.
