Four high school baseball players from the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda pairing were recently selected by the five opposing Red Rock Conference coaches to this year’s All-Conference squad.
Earning first-team honors were senior shortstop / pitcher Eli Becker and sophomore pitcher / outfielder Eli Fest. Senior centerfielder Andrew Madsen and sophomore catcher Matt Madsen both claimed Honorable Mention All-Conference selection.
Becker capped an exceptional high school baseball career by getting on base an amazing 36 times in 51 plate appearances (.706 on base percentage). He led the Coyotes with a .537 batting average (22-for-41), while scoring 14 runs, driving in 10 and stealing 12 bases. Becker drew eight walks and remarkably only struck out once in 51 trips to the plate.
“Eli Becker had a tremendous season with his bat,” praised Coyotes’ head baseball coach Chad Knutson. “He really put up some outstanding numbers as he always made contact and put the ball in play. Eli also played very well at shortstop and did a nice job of pitching, too.”
Becker pitched 24 innings this spring, starting four games and earning a pair of wins in relief, while sporting an earned run average (ERA) of 3.90.
