Greetings from the Fulda Schools!
Another amazing weekend in the books for the Fulda Community and the Fulda Wood Duck Festival days! The weather was great and attendance looked very good to me. The pride is evident with all the folks that stepped up to make this all possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the volunteers and organizations that are keeping this great community event alive and well! All the Fulda neighboring communities are wowed by the ability to keep the carnival and the parade. The “Sunday in the Park” is truly a community gem! I am proud and fortunate to be able to work in this friendly and active little community! I hope that we all can be great ambassadors for the town and it’s school and businesses.
I have fallen flat on my face with school projects this spring/early summer. The wet spring slowed everyone down and hopefully we can do a few things this summer/fall. Priority one is staffing and we were able to land some great folks to replace our outgoing great folks. I think Fulda is a little like the Golden State Warriors. We lose a couple teachers to retirements, etc., but we don’t panic because we have the rock stars in every grade that will help mentor our newer #1 draft picks into great teachers ,as well! I feel very good about the fall. As far as facilities go the top 10 includes:
1. We want a new entrance to the elementary that is more parent/visitor friendly. We want to remodel the area west of current office to put a doorway instead of the windows. With that would come better security for entrance to the building.
2. We need new boilers in the 7-12 building to replace the originals and help with maintenance costs as well as energy efficiency.
3. We need to remove the other two pine trees in front of the elementary by the auditorium. They have served their purpose and have hurt the looks of the building in terms of blocking the view as well as dirtying up the limestone.
4. We need to replace the windows on the older part of the elementary and paint the panels that surround the windows. It will be a day and night difference and bring the building the look it deserves for the many alumni that attended as well as our current and future families.
5. We need to continue with a roof replacement schedule.
6. We need to take care of water issues behind the high school.
7. We will do lots of catching up this summer on the little things such as painting and miscellaneous touch ups.
We have great facilities and I hope we can make some sizeable changes in the next year or two.
I am hoping to get a presentation put together in July for the community and especially our farmers to learn how the school can tackle some big projects while also lessening the tax burden on the farmers.
Stay tuned and have a great rest of June!
Have a great week!
