The Cooley family presented a beautiful set of candelabra to the Presbyterian Church on Sunday in memory of their parents.

Fulda and Pipestone are tied for league top honors with 12 wins each. The Fulda Giants defeated Pipesetone this week 8 to 2 as well as the Air Base 9 to 2.

In a letter to the Editor of the Fulda Free Press the Jeffers baseball club complemented the Fulda baseball organization and community for the excellent manner in which they were taken care of on Wednesday evening prior to and during the game, including the lights, the public address system and the numerals for the score board.

Dennis Sandhurst returned home from the hospital after having skin grafting done on his shoulder following an accident with a ringer washer.

Funeral services for Tip I. Peasley, 70, who died Monday evening will be held on Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church.

Fulda loses another bit of history as the building on the corner of St. Paul Avenue and Front Street is demolished.

Teacher Marcine Elder attends the FHA National Convention in California.

Duane Lyons retires after 35 years as the Dundee Municipal Liquor Store manager. He was honored on Friday by friends and family with a gathering in the newly constructed shelter in the Dundee City Park.

The Fulda Community Club to hold it’s 2nd annual old time Threshing Bee on Saturday, August 5th.

Fifth grader Jessica Hogan won the District Hershey Track Meet softball throw with a toss of 95 feet and Elk River with a throw of 111 feet. She is now invited to Hershey, Pennsylvania to compete on August 10-13.

Celebrating birthdays at Maple Lawn Nursing Home are Emma Sundermeyer, Tillie Nelson, Amanda Jorgenson, Louise Zins and Mable Olson.

Lulu Callies passed away on July 20th at the age of 95 years old.

Superintendent Doug Froke spent a portion of the board meeting explaining formula allowance for new money from the state – partially due to declining enrollment in the district.

The community of Reading is hosting a centennial celebration from July 30 to August 1. A bit of history – When the site was selected for the Village of Reading in October of 1899, it was never intended to be much of a town… at least not by the Burlington Railroad. But before long the village consisted of two general stores, a hardware store, the depot, elevators, blacksmith shop, lumberyard, and a post office. The country school and the summit Lake Presbyterian Church had also been moved into town. The village was then plotted and ready to grow.

The sweltering heat saw many local children taking a dip in the pool, adults enjoying a soda under the shade and even dogs looking for a cool place to relax. The heat index hovered in the triple digits leaving many to believe this really is the Dog Days of Summer.

Toni Meyers passed away at the age of 41 years old on July 21st after a 2 year battle with cancer.

Alice Kerkow passed away on July 21st at the age of 83 years old.

Paul Wiener passed away on July 23rd at the age of 80 years old.

Emma Sundermeyer passed away at the age of 94 years old on July 25th.

William Sankey passed away on July 20th at the age of 76 years old.

Norbert Reith, 80, passed away at Our House in Slayton on July 24th after being a patient in Sioux Falls for six weeks.

Fulda Little League concludes excellent season by earning the runner-up trophy.

Milford Gentz, chairmen of the Heron Lake Watershed Restoration, gave a report to the Murray County Commissioners on ‘The First 10 Years’.
