Nancy Smith Christman, 87 of Park Rapids, MN died Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Crystal Brook Senior Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.

Nancy was born September 20, 1931 in Franklin, Indiana, the daughter of Ezra and Grace (Deer) Smith.  She grew up in Indiana, graduating from Franklin High School in 1949.  Nancy lived in Kansas and Iowa prior to living in Hallock, MN for 11 years.  She graduated from Hanover College in 1953 in Hanover, Indiana.  She married Walter (Dave) Christman August 23, 1953, in Whiteland, Indiana.  She attended Moorhead University in Moorhead, MN in 1968.  She furthered her education at Bemidji State University in 1985.  She worked as an English teacher to children with special needs; retiring in 1991.  In between husband Dave’s interim ministry, they spent their time at their home in Park Rapids.  During her time in Park Rapids, Nancy volunteered at the Hubbard County Food Shelf, Park Rapids Friends of Library, and St. Joseph’s Hospital Gift Shop. She enjoyed spending time with family, doing crafts, volunteering, reading, gardening, bird watching, weaving and loving nature.

There are no words that can describe the legacy that Nancy will leave behind.  She was kind and generous, patient and loving, accepting and supportive, gentle and nurturing, compassionate and forgiving.  She was a beloved sister, devoted wife, a selfless mom, an unforgettable grandma to one that will cherish her always, and a great-grandma to 6 who will do their best to make her proud.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Dave of Park Rapids; granddaughter – Megan (Peter) of Bemidji; son-in-law, Chris of Park Rapids; and her great-grandchildren: Ethan, Mackenzie, Dylan, Kellen, Jackson, and Madelyn of Bemidji.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Grace Deere and Ezra Smith, siblings, Roberth L. Smith, Helen Jane Allen, and Eleanor Brown, children, Deb C. Tennent and Roy A. Christman.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Park Rapids, MN.   Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church.
