Junior Maverick Beckmann and senior Lukas Stapek were Murray County Central / Fulda’s leading two varsity cross country runners at the 14-team Paul Metcalf Invitational at Mountain Lake last Wednesday morning, August 28.
Beckmann ran the challenging 5,000-meter course in a fine time 19:06.0 and finished 21st in the 75-runner field.
Running in his first-ever cross country meet, Stapek placed 35th (ahead of 40 finishers) with his time of 20:10.3. Stapek was 32nd in the team scoring, among 57 runners.
“Lukas ran very well, moving past several experienced runners as the race progressed,” declared Warriors head coach Dominick Damm. “He’s going to have some success in cross country this fall.”
MCC / F’s third, fourth and fifth scoring runners were junior Isaiah Kathman (58th overall, 49th team scoring, 21:58.4), sophomore Rylan Engelkes (67, 53, 22:56.0) and junior Dante Damm (69, 54, 23:10.6).
