In memory of David Elskamp

David C. Elskamp, age 80 of St. Peter, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Benedictine Court, St. Peter.

Memorial Mass will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter with visitation beginning at 9:30 am. A Rosary will be said at 10:30 for those wishing to join. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Condolences can be left at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.

David Charles was born May 12, 1939 in Fulda MN to Frederick Joseph and Agatha Philamina (Keitges) Elskamp. He was united in marriage to Ellen “Gigi” Margaret Weicherding on January 31, 1964 in Fulda, MN. David enlisted in US Air Force in January of 1959 and was honorably discharged in June 1962.  In 1975 he enlisted in the MN Army National Guard retiring as Staff Sargent (E6) with a total of 24 years of service. He received his Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Minnesota.  He worked at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center in St. Peter as a Certified Occupational Therapist and Rehab Therapist for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor. In his life, he has been a member of the MN Occupational Therapy Association, the National Occupational Therapy association and the American Legion, National Guard Youth Camp volunteer, member of the church men’s club, and campfire group.  Through the years, David and Gigi hosted many foreign exchange students from a variety of countries. He loved photographing sunsets, camping, canoeing, fishing and spending time with his family.

Left to remember David are his children: Ann (George) Wilner, Beth Elskamp, Cindy (Bryon) Studer, Jim (Jodi) Elskamp, Deb (Dan) Exsted, and Patty (Casey) Nourie, Eiji Nishikawa; grandchildren: Sarah & Lyda Wilner, Rebecca (Carl) Swanson, Brianna & Matthew Studer, William & Joseph Elskamp, and Natalie & Eric Nourie; great grandchildren: Andrew & Calin Swanson; *siblings: Coletta Hayward, John Elskamp, Agnes Malters, Ann Kennedy, Sister Yvonne Elskamp O.S.F, Rev. Frederick Elskamp, Ordained Catholic Priest and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen “Gigi” Margaret (Weicherding) Elskamp; parents Frederick Joseph and Agatha Philamina (Keitges) Elskamp; brothers: Robert Elskamp and Phillip Elskamp; and sisters: Lozetta Denno and Colleen Woznak.
