An old landmark is gone – City Flag Pole taken down Tuesday afternoon from village square where it has stood for two score years. Erected at the time of World WWI, the pole has served long and well, but with the increased number of cars using the Fulda streets it has become more and more of a traffic hazard.

Lanoue Alleys soon to be in full swing…new alleys and equipment arrived last week and a crew of experts are busy with the installation. Alleys and pin setters should be ready for use by the middle of the week. At present, five leagues have already organized.

S & H Manufacturing Company of Fulda, is one of several hundred commercial exhibitors  which will make up the Industrial Exposition at the 1959 National Cattle Congress at Waterloo, Iowa October 3-10.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Pals are the parents of a son, born Saturday, September 12, at the Slayton hospital.

Linda Michelau, eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Michelau, had the misfortune to break her collarbone on Thursday when her classroom desk tipped over.

It’s Marching Band Season and Mr. Norrdin is looking for new members…we have classy uniforms, new Twirlerette outfits, new marching drums and great traditional Marching music. Who should join; students with A, B, and C grade average; who WANT to belong; and who have a sense of Hearing Pitch Change and Rhythm. (Most everyone has these skills so see Mr. Norrdin, NOW)

It is surprising how many good, patriotic Americans are to be found in small towns and rural areas of our country.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1989

After much hard work, anticipation and anxious moments on the part of the volunteer crew, Fulda has attained Star City status. Charlie Hopkins, MaryAnn Boom, Harold Busch, Dwayne Westra, Dale Kirsch, Lori Ommen and Mary Magnus were instrumental in helping the city complete the 11 tasks need to become a Star City.

Fulda School District received notification of a PER award in the category of Per Process and Progress Excellence they will be receiving. Principal Dale Kirsch gives credit to Rich Hup, Connie Haberman and Hank Lenards, stating, “They earned it. They did the work.”

The City of Fulda is considering a walking path along the lake near Eichten Park. A survey will establish lot lines for a possible walking path from 6th street to the park.

Celebrating birthdays at Maple Lawn Nursing Home are Lillian Iverson, Mollie Lambert and Benie Cosgriff.

Approximately 80 people joined the Fulda VFW Post 9017 and American Legion Post 318, and Auxiliaries on September 17th for the Third Annual Freedom Walk at 7-Mile Lake Park.

RoseMary Schweigert and Rex Simmons spent September 4th answering phones for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon to “Help Jerry’s Kids”.

Agatha A. Elskamp passed away September 15th at the age of 91 years old.

Cynthia Wingert and Walter Larson are planning an October 6th wedding at the St. Charles Borromeo in St. Charles, Minnesota.

Emergency Medical Services week celebrated September 17-23.

Dan Bierma places 1st in the tractor driving contest held at the Murray County Fair sponsored by the FFA.

The Fulda City Council looks into leasing a police vehicle with Travel Management Division at a cost of $320 per month plus 13¢ a mile verses purchasing a vehicle from Worthington Ford at a cost of $20,600. The discussion was tabled until a future meeting.

Homecoming King and Queen candidates for 1999 are Myron Trejo, Nate Isder, Joe Fuerstenberg, Chris Jenssen, Chad Wenzel, Lindsey Appel, Jessi Otken, Heidi Reith, Vicki Bestge and Jacki Hein. Coronation will take place on Monday morning.

Exchange student Tobias Plank of Potsdam,  Germany, to attend school in Fulda.

Hannah’s Hands opens its doors featuring massage therapist Hannah Vongphachan.

Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout are Curtis Deuschle, Charlie Brockway, Joe Fuersenberg and Justin Thiner.

Father Egan and Ervin Haberman cut the ribbon as part of the elevator grand opening celebrating at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church on Sunday.

Stacy Dierks and Jeremy Eilers were married on July 31, 1999 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fulda.

Kristin Deuschle and Jeromy Peterson were married June 5th at First Presbyterian Church, Fulda, MN.

Thomas Weavers passed away August 11, 1999.

Vincent and Marlene Sandhurst, former Fulda residents, share their Apple Pie Bird collection history at the Mapleview Estates apple pie bakeoff Tuesday afternoon. The Sandhurts moved to New Ulm, MN, 5 years ago where they own a gift shop called Sandurst’s Ivy Cottage.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Hayley and Krista Grams, Kaitlin and Austin Holinka, Aaron and Courtney Tiesler and Kyle and Adam Jans.
