1933-DONNA GETZEL-2019
Donna Mae Getzel, the daughter of Richard “Pat” and Martha (Behr) Goedtke, was born on November 2, 1933 in rural Nobles Co., MN. Donna was baptized and confirmed at Pfingsten Lutheran Church in rural Fulda. She grew up on the farm and attended Nobles Co., Dist. 37 country school and Fulda Public Schools. She worked at Brown’s Recreation and Shorty’s Restaurant. Donna was united in marriage to Douglas Getzel on August 20, 1950 at the Pfingsten Lutheran Church. After their marriage they farmed near Fulda and Lake Sarah before moving back to Nobles Co. in 1956, where they farmed until retiring to Fulda in 1992. She worked for Fred’s Plaza 66 Café for 11 years and for over 24 years for the Veterinary Medical Center PA in Worthington. They spent many winters in Mesa. AZ. Donna passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN at the age of 85. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church Worthington, MN where she directed the Cherub Choir and Junior Choir for several years. She also served as Vice President and President of the Lutheran Church Women and sang for many years in the church choir. Donna enjoyed singing, mowing grass, gardening, (vegetables and flowers), crocheting, sewing and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Getzel of Fulda, MN; 3 children, Robert (Donna) Getzel of Worthington, MN, Gail Gruis of Fulda, MN and Sheryl “Shortie” (Paul) Veen of Charles City, IA; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Margaret Goedtke of Fulda, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister. Una Ackerman, brother, Dell Goedtke and son-in-law, Ron Gruis.
Funeral Services at American Lutheran Church Worthington, MN at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 26, 2019 with Pastor Sandy Carpenter officiating. The organist is Sylvia Anderson. The soloist is Lloyd Winter. Interment at Worthington Memorial Gardens Worthington, MN.
