Windom wins varsity volleyball match over Coyotes in four sets

Playing in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd of high school volleyball rooters, a pair of strong rivals squared off at the gymnasium in Okabena last Monday evening, September 23.

It was Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda hosting Windom in a non-conference match, which had its share of highlight moments throughout four sets of action before the high-powered Eagles, who effectively blocked numerous HL-O / F spike attempts, emerged with a 3-1 victory.

Game scores were 20-25, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-18 in Windom’s favor.

“We came out with a lot of energy and maybe caught the Eagles a little off guard,” said Coyotes’ head coach Trista Rhubee about her team’s first set victory over her alma mater where she starred for a Windom squad which won a state championship in 2008. “But we basically woke up a sleeping giant and it didn’t take the Eagles very long to make a few adjustments in their blocking and serving. As the match progressed, we struggled to earn points against a very tall and talented squad.”
