Gray King visits from South Africa

Meeting grandchildren and seeing family was the calling card that brought Gray King from Bedford, South Africa, to the United States. With two sons residing in Washington, D. C, and grandchildren, ages two and nine weeks, a visit was definitely in order.
King is married to Sheryl Van Oort, a graduate of Fulda High School, and a sister to Fulda resident Dean Van Oort.
King, who was attending agriculture college in South Africa, came to the United States on a student exchange program during late March of 1975. He studied at the University of Minnesota, and, during the summer months, did an internship on the farm owned by Ray and Twyla Goedtke. He stayed until the harvest was completed.
“I was at agricultural college in South Africa for a two year course. At the end of the course, there was an exchange program with the University of Minnesota. We would go if we would qualify. The program would bring foreign students to rural Minnesota farms to gain experience working on the farms,” King explained. “We then spent winter quarter at the school with courses. Then I went back to South Africa.”
