105 candles for Kathryn

Imagine 105 candles on a large birthday cake with each of those candles representing one year of life. Perhaps the candles will be a one, a zero, and a five, lined up to read out the number 105. Either way you see it, 105 years is a more than a century of joys and tears, sorrows and blessings.Fulda’s Kathryn Crowley will mark her 105th birthday on Tuesday, October 15th.  She has been a resident of Maple Lawn Senior Care for the past five years, and she has definitely had many varied life experiences!

Crowley was born on October 15, 1914, in Fairmont, Minnesota, to Johanna and Joseph Bulfer. She was the second oldest of eleven children. Today, she and her youngest sister, Ruth Lenort, age 89,  Fairmont, are the surviving siblings.

Crowley met her husband, Raymond, at a dance while attending college at the School of Agriculture at the University of  Minnesota in the Twin Cities. The couple married on April 29, 1937. They moved to a farmstead near Iona, MN. Eight children were born to Kathryn and Raymond: Francis, Wayne (deceased), Joanne, Ellen, Bob, Bill, Colette and Ron.
