Scoring on all seven of their possessions in the first half, the top-seeded Mountain Lake Area Wolverines rolled to a 49-0 halftime lead and claimed a 56-20 victory over the fifth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in a Section 3 9-man high school football tournament semifinal game last Saturday afternoon (October 26) in Mountain Lake.
MLA, which improved to 10-0, is the state’s top-ranked team. The Wolverines will play second-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek Friday in Marshall for the section championship.
“Mountain Lake is a very tough opponent — I think they will win the state title,” HL-O/F co-head coach Jonathon Curry said. “They are so fast, strong and physical. They make you play up to their level, or they will leave you behind.”
HL-O/F, which had earned a 32-25 opening-round victory over Madelia, ends the season with a record of 3-7.
