HL-O/F Coyotes Madison, Madsen earn All-District honors; Thier, Fest named Honorable Mention

The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyote football team held its end-of-season banquet last Tuesday night (November 12) in Fulda, completing the second year of the combined program.

Finishing with a record of 3-7, the Coyotes claimed their first-ever section tournament victory when they defeated Madelia by a score of 32-25 on Tuesday, October 22.

HL-O/F also earned back-to-back victories over Cedar Mountain (22-8) and Edgerton (42-28) in mid-September, as the Coyotes matched their win total from the inaugural season of 2018 when they went 3-6.

Senior Tyler Madison and junior Matt Madsen were among the top performers all season-long for the Coyotes and both were selected to the All-District team by opposing coaches from the 9-man South West Sub-District. Juniors Zach Thier and Eli Fest were also recognized as All-District Honorable Mention choices.

Madison, who was also named the team’s Offensive Back of the Year, finished the season with 44 receptions for 563 yards and had nine touchdown catches. He also rushed the ball 12 times for 105 yards and one touchdown.

“Tyler was one of the best players on the field every time he played,” Coyotes co-head coach Jonathon Curry said. “He was a great receiver and also a good cornerback. We could always count on him to make plays, and defenses had to account for him on every play.”
