Trailing by a single point (12-13) with 20 seconds left to play in a C-Squad girls basketball game at Fulda last Thursday (December 5), the Coyotes of Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda rallied for a 16-13 victory.
First a layup by freshman Kelli Renneke gave the Coyotes a one-point lead, 14-13. Moments later, freshman Ellie Sheldahl came up with a steal and a layup to seal the deal, as time ran out and HLOF had a three-point triumph.
Renneke finished the game with six points to lead the Coyotes in scoring, while both sophomore Addison Fisher and freshman Elise Rostomily scored four points for HLOF. Sheldahl netted the game’s final two points. Rostomily and Renneke each made three-pointers for the Coyotes.
Senior foreign-exchange students Eline Van Driel, Tse Tse Galbadrakh and Helma Poeppel also played and contributed to the well-balanced HLOF team victory.
Defensively, the Coyotes held the Wolverines to a mere two points the entire second half as HLOF turned an 8-11 deficit into the 16-13 win.
