Harold David Yotter was on born July 1, 1927 on the family farm in Lowville Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Fred and Ruth Swanson Yotter. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1944. Harold worked at the Chevy Garage in Slayton from 1942 until 1945 when he enlisted in the United States Merchant Marine. Harold served in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and Middle East. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, Harold returned to Slayton and worked for the Ford Garage. On September 5, 1948 he and Annie Meyer were married at Immanuel American Lutheran Church in rural Fulda. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton. In 1952 they moved to Oceanside, CA where Harold served in the United States Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1954. Harold and Annie then returned to Slayton where they operated Harold’s Mobile Station from 1955 to 1965. In 1965 they built the current building and ran it as Harold’s Northstar which later became Harold’s Service. Harold was one of the charter members of the Beaver Creek Archery Club in Slayton founded in 1955. Annie passed away on November 21, 2006. Harold semi-retired in 2006 and in 2010 sold the business to his son, Glen. In September 2019 Harold moved to the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne where he passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the age of 92. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Harold also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Post. Harold enjoyed bow hunting, archery, hunting, and his yellow lab’s Pretty and Rusty.
Survivors include his son, Glen Yotter of Slayton, MN, one brother, Ralph Yotter and his wife, Pat of Albert Lea, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Annie, and two brothers, Joel, and Richard Yotter.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church Slayton, MN on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dale Degner officiating. The organist is Gwen Deger. The pallbearers are his fellow American Legion members. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.
