Opening the game on a 10-0 run and closing the first half with an 8-0 burst, the undefeated and state-ranked Southwest Christian Eagles claimed an 82-42 victory over the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in Red Rock Conference high school boys’ basketball action last Thursday night (January 2) in Okabena.
SWC, which improved to 8-0 and is currently ranked fourth in the Class A state polls, led 39-20 at halftime. The Eagles had a commanding rebounding advantage (49-31, including 18 offensive boards) and forced 23 Coyote turnovers, using a full-court press to create several scoring opportunities in transition.
“Overall, our initial defense was outstanding in the half-court in the first half,” Coyotes head coach Colby Pack said. “They had eight second-chance points and eight fast-break points in the first half. Take those away and they only scored 23 points, which is pretty good defense on our part.”
